Seed
Hay - Sown as a rotation crop. It is spoken
of as a one - two - or three year ley, depending
on the length of time it is left undisturbed.
Sainfoin or timothy, Lucerne or alfalfa,
clover and mixture hay (comprising timothy,
rye grass, clovers and trefoin) are all
seed hays.
Meadow Hay is cut from permanent pasture
and contains a greater variety of grasses
than seed hay. Cocksfoot or orchard grass,
sweet vernal, meadow fescue, rye grass and
clover will all be found in good meadow
hay. Meadow hay is more easily digested. |
